Good Morning 4th Grade ๐ŸŒž!

-Book Bags: Thank you all so much for coming up to TCS and collecting the book-bags I set out. We're all getting a lot of screen-time these days, perhaps more than is healthy for us. My goal for the rest of this unusual 4th Quarter is for students to find a balance ⚖ between online learning and  book-based activities.

In your book bags, you'll find 2 novels: Holes and Drita My Homegirl. For now, hold off on reading those on your own. We'll be reading both of those novels together, starting with Holes next week. I think you'll enjoy it! You're welcome to read the Scholastic News and the Nat Geo Explorers but keep them somewhere where you can find them. I'll be assigning articles and questions from those materials eventually.

Please take good care of the books and be responsible for them. Feel free to just leave all the materials in the bag for now, and take out items as they're assigned. The magazines and the math books are yours to read and use and keep, but you'll need to return all the novels to 4th grade when we come back to school. I need those back for next year's class. Parents, I appreciate your help and support with all of this.

-Reading ๐Ÿ“š: Do the same assignment as yesterday. Spend 30 minutes or so working on the Everything on a Waffle questions. These are due Friday, so take your time and write good, thoughtful, complete responses. Give examples from the novel to prove what you're saying. When you're finished, proofread your responses, and share this work with me via Google Docs.

If you enjoyed the novel, the sequel to Everything on a Waffle is called One Year in Coal Harbor, and it's available on Amazon or Scholastic.com or wherever you buy books. Here's the link to Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Year-Coal-Harbor-Polly-Horvath/dp/0385386532/ref=la_B001IU4S6S_1_10?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1523479438&sr=1-10

-Main Math Group➕➖✖➗:  Watch the Module 5, Lesson 17 YouTube video๐Ÿ“บ in the links, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators. Then, complete the Lesson 17 Problem Set p. 91-92, and homework pages p. 93-94.  It may help to watch the video a second or third time if you're having trouble. Don't get stuck or frustrated. If there's something you just don't get, it's ok ๐Ÿ‘Œto skip it and go on to the next item. Parents, please see the video lesson and/or the Eureka Parent Tip Sheet in the links if you need support (this is Module 5, Topic C).

-Math UnGroup♎♾:  Take the Module 5 test that was in your book-bag. It's okay with me if you use your Mod 5 Book if it helps to look back at the previous lessons.  Don't spend more than 45 minutes on the test today. At that point, put it away and you can complete it Tuesday. Buena suerte!☘

-Spelling and Vocabulary: Written work is due via Google Docs if you haven't already shared it with me. Study for the Friday quiz, and try a practice quiz on Spelling City.  Since Friday is a holiday, you're welcome to take the quiz a day early.
⭐With the written spelling work for the last 3 weeks, I've been grading your homework on Google Docs and leaving you the grade and a comment ๐Ÿ—ฉ on the document.

-Mr. Jones has asked us all to stick with the school calendar, and it shows no school Friday or Monday for "Mini-Break." So enjoy the respite, get outside whenever you can and enjoy the beautiful Spring weather⛈๐ŸŒˆ☀️๐Ÿšต‍♀️. We're all blessed to live in northern New Mexico during this crisis, and don't worry, things will slowly get back to normal in the coming months. I'll be back Tuesday morning with next week's homemade, slow-cooked, locally-sourced, high-quality distance-learning activities๐Ÿ™‚.
I hope you all have a fun Mini-Break weekend at home with your families, a wonderful Passover, and a Happy Easter! ❤
