Have a great Summer!

-It's been an excellent year. I've really enjoyed working with all the creative, diligent, kind, smart kids in this group. I'll miss seeing you all every day! Please email me a schedule of your plays and baseball/ softball games (mbonner@taoscharterschool.org), and I'll come see them if I can. Over the summer, keep your reading skills sharp and get ready for 5th grade by continuing the D.E.A.R. habit of reading for at least 20 minutes every day. Your accounts at Lexia, IXL Math, Spelling City, and Typing Web will all remain open and available for you to use any time during summer break. So be sure to take advantage of your memberships at those sites when you have time.

For Wednesday and Thursday:

-Class clean-up Wednesday: Please bring in a cloth grocery bag to take home all of your personal supplies and materials so you can re-use them next year. -EKiP Passes: Today all 4th graders went home with the Every Kid in a Park Pass Card, which entitles the whole family to FREE admission to any National Park in the USA, valid until August 31. Most national parks now cost $30-$35 per vehicle, but with the Pass they're all FREE for you. Use the the top links to plan out your summer adventures! -On Thursday, we'll be doing Move-Up Day, Field Day for grades K-4, a Bike Safety Clinic from FIT Taos for 4th grade (which includes a special prize for each student who participates), and I'll give out final report cards. It's a full and fun last day of the school-year so don't miss out!

Friday Field Trip Info:

-On Friday, May 17, the class will be taking a hiking field trip to Bandelier National Monument near Los Alamos. During the morning, we’ll take a 2 ½ mile loop hike on Tsankawi Mesa to tour Ancestral Pueblo cliff dwellings. In the afternoon, we’ll have a picnic lunch, and then hike down the Frey Trail into Frijoles Canyon about 2 ½ more miles to explore the main ruins. Students should be prepared for the elements and wear sturdy sneakers or hiking boots, and a hat to block the sun. They should also bring a small backpack with sunscreen, their own lunch, and at least one water bottle. If we have time, we’ll stop for ice cream at the Dairy Queen in Espanola our way back to Taos, so kids should bring $5 or so cash for that stop. Students should be at school ready to go at 8:15 a.m ., and we’ll return at 5:00 p.m . Please be on-time at 5:00 for student pick up. Thanks, MB

For Tuesday:

-Math: Complete homework pages 25-26. Continue to practice starred skills in IXL Math at home. -Race in the Park is Tuesday morning in Kit Carson Park starting at 9:00. Dress for outside PE and wear sneakers and socks.

Friday Trip Postponed:

-Our Friday, May 10 trip to Bandelier National Monument has been postponed due to weather. The forecast for Friday in Los Alamos is for all day rain, a high of 45 degrees, with a chance of thunderstorms - less than ideal conditions for 2 hikes and a picnic. We'll plan to do the same trip on Friday, May 17th instead.

For Tuesday:

-Math: Lesson 4 homework p. 18-19. -Field Trip information and permission slips went home today for our 2 trips that we're taking this week. Please bring in the signed slips and $16 to cover the bus transportation as soon as possible. Are there any parents who are available to help chaperone on either of these trips? We'll need at least 2 on Wednesday for Pojoauque, and 3 on Friday for Bandelier. Please email me if you'd like to join us: mbonner@taoscharterschool.org -Our 3rd annual World Fair Festival Night is this Thursday from 5-7 pm.
