For Monday

  -Math :  Spend about 15-20 minutes using the Khan Academy link reviewing and practicing place value skills.  Then go into IXL Math for 15-20 minutes practicing those starred skills in section A. -Spelling and Vocabulary : Spend about 30 minutes starting your weekly written spelling work. See the instructions below. This work is not due until Thursday, so you don't have to finish it all today. Just get started and do some part of it each day.  -Tuesday's Class Meeting  will start at  8:30 a.m .  Set those watches ⌚ so you won't be late! 

Spelling and Vocabulary List for the Week of 8/31/20

Look up the definition of each word at dictionary.com which is linked below, and also in our Bitmoji classroom on the bottom shelf. Copy the definition you find there. 3. Use each word in a creative sentence that shows you know what the word means. The sentences can be funny or fictional. Please make them interesting to read!

Friday Assignments

-Writing Skills: Complete p. 3 in your Writing Skills book that we started using today. Be sure to read the directions first.  Let me know on Hangouts if you have any questions. - Math :  Log in to   IXL Math   and spend 20 minutes practicing the ⭐starred skills⭐ in 4th Grade, Section A. - Reading : Today, spend 20 minutes practicing reading skills on Lexia.  - Digital Lunch Tables : For Friday, I Invited: Eva, James, Natalia, Teya, Sophie, Kiana, Olivia, and Daniel V. Hope you can all make it! We'll meet at 11:30 on our Google Classroom Meet Link, same one we use every day for class.    On Friday, I'll invite another small table group. These should be fun! 🍔🍎🍤🍜🍳🍴🌽🍉😄 - Monday's Class Meeting  will start at  8:30 a.m .  Set those watches ⌚ so you won't be late!   Have a great weekend!

For Thursday

For Monday:

  -Reading 📚: Go to Lexia and spend 30 minutes practicing reading skills on your level. Let me know on Google Hangouts if you get stuck or have any questions and I'll try to help. - Home Learning Center : Keep working on setting up a good home learning center if you haven't already set one up. Ask your parents for help when you need it. Try to set it up in a quiet place, away from distractions so you can focus. You need a chair and a table or desk to work/ write on, a light that's makes it bright enough to read.  And add a crate or a box nearby to keep all of your supplies in. That would help you keep your things organized and easy to find when you need them.   - Reminders : Just like at school, we have rules and expectations for online learning. During our morning meets and lessons, you need to turn off and put away any other devices that you may have like phones or tablets. Those should be kept in another room to avoid distractions.   **Also, remember to stay on mute un

For Friday:

- Pet Parade!: Thanks so much for showing all your goats, cats, fish, and reptiles, and dogs!   That was really fun to see.  This class has a lot of amazing animal friends. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾 - Lexia Reading Test : Check your Gmail for your log-in information to Lexia Core 5 Reading. Some time today, go there, log-in, and take the placement test.  Please take your time , and do the best you can so you get placed at the correct level.  Students who rush through the test will have to take it again 😒.  It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes or so. - Google Hangouts :  Send me a reply 😎 💬 on Hangouts if you didn't do that yesterday. It's a fast and fun way to communicate! - Reading 📚 : Read ahead in Tales of  a Fourth Grade Nothing    all you want. Thursday:

 - Google Hangouts 💬:  Check on your Gmail screen, in the lower left corner is a chat feature called Hangouts. I sent you all an invitation. Once you accept it, you can use it to make a quick check-in, ask a  question 🙋, or just say "Hey!"  Email has its place for communication, but this is faster and more fun. We can also use it for a video meeting if you need help with something that you're working on. So just accept the invite, and then say HI to me so I know you're in! I'll write you back later today.  Now you have a easy, fast way to communicate.  - Reading 📚:  In the Bitmoji classroom, up on the top shelf of the bookshelf, find the Judy Blume book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Scroll down to page 15, then read Chapter 3, "The Family Dog," p. 15-18. It's a funny one! Wednesday assignments:

 -Email Practice #2:  Write an email to a classmate. Check your school Gmail, and you'll find a new one from me. Read it through, and follow those directions to send an email to a classmate, in which you ask a question. Send it off to them.  Later on, check your email to see if they have replied to you. Feel free to write them back and forth as many times as you like, and don't forget the Emojis! 😎👽😵 -Thursday's Show-and-Tell check-in will be a special one. Find an object that makes you feel proud 😁 or happy 😊 that you can share with the class and explain why. Examples could include things like an award or trophy, a work of art, something you made or built, a special family picture, a piece of sports equipment that you've worked hard using, a musical instrument that you're learning to play... -Reading: Feel free to keep reading Tales of a Forth Grade Nothing. Tuesday Assignment

 -Email Practice #1: Check your school gmail account, and you'll find an email from me that contains a question.  Read the email, and think about the question.  When you're ready, click "Reply." Then write back to me and answer the question I asked. Give as much detail as you can. When you're done, click "Send."   When I get your reply, I'll write you back! -Today in our Meet, I said that I would also give you a classmate's email address, and to send them an email. I decided that we'll do that on Wednesday instead, so just hold off on that for now and we'll do that tomorrow.  For today, just complete Email Practice #1. -For Wednesday's Show and Tell share, wear a favorite or funny t-shirt to our meet, and tell us why you like it. -At  9:00 Wednesday morning , go to our Google Classroom, click on the video "Meet Link" inside the banner near the top, and join our Meet. Monday assignments

 Thank you all for joining our first online class meeting this morning. It's really great to see you all and hear from you in this format.  For tomorrow, I'm asking students to do the following: 1. Check out the Bitmoji Classroom posted here, above. This was a fun project for me, and I hope students enjoy it. I embedded 27 links on that image, including a lot of shortcuts that should help save you some time. So take some time now to click around and explore it, and see where you go!   2. Check your school gmail account, and find the email that says "CORRECTED How-to log in to our Google Classroom." Follow those instructions, and log yourself in. Ask your parents for help if you need it, or email me. This will be an important site for us for online learning, and you'll need access to it to join our video Meet on Tuesday.  3. Welcome to 4th Grade!

  Hello to all the incoming 4th grade students and parents at Taos Charter! I hope you've all have had a good summer break. I enjoyed mine too, but I'm glad to be back working in the classroom and excited to kick off another school year with this new group of kids.  -Student Chromebooks and materials bags are available for parents to pick up in our TCS cafeteria Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week from 10 to 2 each day.  -Our first online class meeting will be on Monday, August 17 at 9:00 a.m. on Google Meets. To find the invitation link, students should log in on your school Chromebook, then check your Gmail. You'll see an email from me that contains the meeting link. Your log-in information is the same as it was last year in 3rd grade.
