A Spelling Rule

After a closed vowel in a 1 syl. word use ck
Examples: snack, check, shock, thick, puck

After a closed vowel in a 2+ syl. word use c
Examples: pic/nic, eth/nic, plas/tic, do/mes/tic

After a consonant or double vowel use k
Examples: silk, think, dark, shook, week

After an open vowel use ke
Examples: shake, hike, yoke, choke
