Over Winter Break:

-Reading: Read for 20 minutes or more per day. If you haven't yet hit Level 16 on Lexia, then try to keep up with your weekly 60 minutes. -Math: Your IXL account is back up online at last! Use it over break to keep your math skills sharp and to preview new material that we haven't covered yet. If you still haven't made it into the prestigious One-Minute Multipliers Club, then keep on practicing those multiplication facts using flashcards, websites, and printable worksheets. -Reminder: 4th graders ski and snowboard for FREE everyday at Sipapu! Just bring a copy of your first marking period progress report for verification. See the link or call 800-587-2240 for more info. -Thank you so much for the nice cards and gifts. For Friday:

-History: Complete Steps 5, 7, and 8 on the green checklist - title page, pictures, bibliography. Rehearse reading your report out loud a few times at home so you'll be ready to present to the class. -Secret Santa: Don't forget to bring in your gift to give away. Please don't write who it's for on the outside. -Holiday Party: Kids are welcome to bring in a treat to share after our Secret Santa gift exchange (no candy or soda, please). -Geo Bee!: Congratulations to Lara, Cory, Augustin, Teresa, Irvin, and Grace for winning our class Geography Bee today. It was a tough competition! Those 6 winners will move ahead to compete against students from grades 5-8 in our School-Level Geo-Bee which will be held January 8th.

For Thursday:

-History: Complete Step #4 on the green checklist - write your Final Draft.

For Wednesday:

-History: Complete Step 3 on your green checklist, and begin Step 4. Edit your rough draft. Find and fix all the mistakes in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar. Have a parent or older sibling help you proofread your 5 paragraphs. Use a dictionary to help with spelling when you need to (there's one in the links). Then, get started on writing the final draft. Final Drafts are now due on Friday , December 19 , but you may hand yours in and present on Thursday if you're ready. -Parents, please remember that there's an early dismissal on Wednesday at 11:30.

For Tuesday:

-History: Finish writing the rough draft of your report if you didn't complete it over the weekend. Then, revise what you've written. Say more. Add new information. Expand your paragraphs.

Over the weekend:

-History: Use your outline to start writing the 5 paragraph rough draft of your Revolutionary Biography Report. Follow the "hamburger" paragraph format that you studied in class, and review steps 1 and 2 of the green checklist. Try to complete a minimum of 3 good paragraphs of the rough draft this weekend. -Secret Santa: Students drew names today for the Secret Santa gift exchange which we'll have in class next Friday, December 19. Please limits gifts to about $10.

For Friday:

-Math: Study Links 5-1, and deliver the Unit 5 Family Letter to your parents. -Spelling: Study for the quiz. -History: Outlines are due. If you checked your outline with me today, you can start writing the first couple paragraphs of your rough draft.

For Thursday:

-Spelling: Written work is due. Study for the practice quiz. -History: Outlines are due Friday, but finish yours for Thursday if you can. I'll check it, and you'll be ready to move on to starting your 5 paragraph rough draft a day sooner.

For Wednesday:

-History: Spend 15-20 minutes working on the outline for your report that you started in class today. Follow the format given on the gray outline page and Step #1 on the green checklist. Continue to read and take notes as well. -Math: SL 4-10, and review Unit 4 skills (decimal numbers to the thousandths and metric measurement) for the test. -Parents, this coming weekend and next (December 13-14 and 20-21), Taos Ski Valley is offering a day of FREE ski lessons, lift tickets, and rentals to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders! If you're interested in participating, you need to reserve a spot and pre-register at: http://skitaos.org/page/startem-young

For Tuesday:

-History: Continue to find information, read, and take notes about the person you're studying for the Revolutionary Biography Report. You'll get all the information about the written report on Tuesday.

Use your library books and the websites posted in the links. -Reminder: 4th and 5th graders ski and snowboard for FREE everyday at Sipapu! Just bring a copy of your first marking period progress report for verification. See the link or call 800-587-2240 for more info. -Ski Clothes Needed: Parents, Ski Club is looking for donations of used kids' ski pants, gloves, and goggles to outfit students who may need them this year. If you have any of those items that your family has grown out of, please pass them on to Mr. Bonner or Coach VanNevel.

For Friday:

-Spelling: Study for the quiz. Use your account at Spelling City to help. -History: Continue finding information for your Revolutionary Biography report. Remember, you need at least 2 books and 2 reliable internet articles. You can find articles and videos in the links.

For Thursday:

-Math: Study Links 4-8 -Spelling: Written work is due. Study for the practice quiz.

For Wednesday:

-History: Review the yellow Revolutionary Biography page you got today in class. Start thinking about a few of the people from the list who you are interested in learning more about. Use the links to find more information. Write those names down on the sheet and bring it into class with you on Wednesday. -Music: On Wednesday, December 3rd at 1:00pm in the Gym, K-5th grade will be performing some of the songs they have learned this semester, led by music teacher Tara Somerville. Parents are invited to come join us!
