For Thursday:

-Spelling: Written work is due. Study for the practice quiz. Use your account at Spelling City to help you practice both spelling and definitions! -Science: Start Step #1 on the orange checklist. Use your notes and the outline handout sheet to begin planning your 5 paragraphs in outline form. Remember, outlines are not written in full-sentences. That would take way too long. It's a shortened plan for your rough draft, not the actual rough draft.

For Wednesday:

-Science: Read and take notes on your 3-pronged science report topic. -Math: Practice IXL skills E7, E8, E9, O6, O7, I1, P15, P16

PARCC Test Schedule

-Parents, Our schedule for taking the first round of the new PARCC Assessments in 4th grade is now finalized. We’ll be taking the ELA (English Language Arts) sections on March 5th, March 6th, and March 9th . Math testing will be March 17 and 19 . NMSBA Science testing will be March 24 and 25 . Please mark your calendars, and do not schedule appointments or out-of-town trips on those 7 days.

Over the weekend:

-Science: Find information, read, and take notes on your topic. You'll need to have at least 2 books and 2 reliable websites. See Academic Kids Encyclopedia or Science News for Kids in the Links. You may count a Bill Nye, PBS Nature, or Nova Science Now video as a website source if you find one that pertains to your topic. Be sure to take notes! -Our BIG TCS Basketball Tournament is coming up next week from Monday to Sunday, and we need parent volunteers and donations of food to sell. Funds raised at this event go toward providing many important services at TCS, such as reading and math tutoring at all grade levels, classroom educational materials, and library books. For Friday:

-Spelling: Study for the quiz. -Science: Continue Step #5 on the handout. Find materials, read, and take notes on your report topic.

For Thursday:

-Math: Study Links 6-8 -Spelling: Written work is due. Study for the practice quiz. -Science: Step #5 on the science report handout. Start research and reading on your topic. Use library books, encyclopedias, the internet, magazines… Take notes on what you’ve read, and where you found the information. Keep all your notes and research materials in a research folder.

For Wednesday:

-Math: Study Links 6-7 (p. 133), and IXL skills P15, P16, O5, O6. -Science: Steps 2, 3, and 4 on the handout. Narrow down a topic for your science report within the general field that you chose. Try to choose a topic that has 3 closely related parts. For example, "The 3 types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic" (geology), "3 species of apes: gorillas, chimpanzees, orangatangs" (biology), "3 species of ungulates: elk, deer, moose" (biology), "The 3 outer planets: Uranus, Neptune, Pluto" (astronomy), "3 environmental problems and solutions" (ecology)... Bring your topic in for me to check and approve on Wednesday.

-Math: Play the Alien Angles Game, Practice Measuring Angles, and More Practice Measuring Angles in the links. Also try XP Math Games to play Flip Card, Helicopter Shootdown, and UFO Attack. Practice IXL skills P15 , P16 , O5, O6 . -Science: Choose a general field of science that you’re interested in learning more about for your Science Report. Examples include biology, geology, meteorology, ecology, astronomy, and anthropology. See the handout for more information. -Reminder: 4th and 5th graders still ski for FREE every day at Sipapu! Just bring a copy of your 2nd marking period report card to the ticket office. -Happy Valentine's Day! Enjoy the long weekend. See you Tuesday.

For Friday:

-Spelling: Study for the quiz. -Math: Try out the "Practice Measuring Angles" and "More Practice Measuring Angles" links, and IXL skills P13, P14, P15, P16. -We still need re-enrollment forms from Gabe, Irvin, Ciara, and Chris. Please bring those in on Friday.

For Thursday:

-Reading: Log into Google Drive and complete the 4 paragraph Paired Texts essay summarizing, comparing, and contrasting "To the Top" and "Moonwalk." Don't print it yet. We'll do that in class. -Spelling: Written work is due. Study for the practice quiz. Use your account at Spelling City to help. -Valentines Day: We didn't have time to discuss it in class today, but we'll celebrate Valentines Day at 2:00 on Friday. Kids can exchange cards, and bring in a treat to share (no candy or soda, please).

For Tueday and Wednesday:

-Tuesday is the final Ski Program day of the year. Skiers/ snowboarders should be at school ready to go at 7:45. Pick up is at 5:00. -Non skiers should bring a swimsuit and towel (or warm clothes if you plan to ice skate). Please bring $12 cash to cover the overall cost of pool or rink admission, admission to the movie theater, and a popcorn/ soda snack. -Math: Study Links 6-6, and continue practicing the IXL skills posted for the past weekend.

For Tuesday and Wednesday:

-Math: Study Links 6-3, and finish side B of the long division with remainders practice page. Practice IXL skills E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8. -Ski and Snowboard Program kids should be at school ready to go Tuesday morning at 7:45. Pick up is at 5:00. -Non-skiers will be swimming/ ice skating in the morning, then going to the Guadalajara Grill for lunch (I just found out about this. Sorry for the late notice.) They should bring swimsuit, towel, $2 to swim, and $8 or so for lunch.
