Have a really fun, safe Labor Day weekend!

-See you Tuesday.

For Thursday:

-Creative Writing: Finish the the final draft of your "One Summer Day" essay. Parents, please try to keep your proofreading and editing of this writing assignment to a minimum. I'm using this essay as a kind of written test to help me plan future Language Arts instruction this year.

For Wednesday:

-Math: Study Links 1-4 (p. 9) -Creative Writing: Finish up the rough draft of your "One Summer Day" essay following the instructions on the assignment slip. Bring them into class on Wednesday.

Over the weekend:

-School has been canceled on Monday, August 26 due to the funeral of Mr. Anthony Gutierrez. -Creative Writing: Next week, the class will be writing "One Summer Day" essays in which students describe a single memorable and fun day from this past summer break. Over the weekend, start thinking about what day you'll choose. Think about what you did that day that made it so fun, where you were, who you were with, and how things looked, sounded, smelled, and felt. Try to identify the actual date if you can. Take 15-20 minutes to write down some notes about what you remember from that day and bring those into school Tuesday. We'll begin the rough drafts in class.

For Thursday:

-Math: Study Links 1-3 (p. 7) -Re-enrollment packets are due back on Friday if you haven't sent it in yet. Please be sure to include the state-required lunch form, even if your child does not eat school lunch. -Field trip transportation fee: I'll start collecting the $35 bus fee starting next week, which pays for your child's transportation for class field trips the entire school-year. Please send in a check made out to Taos Charter School by Friday, September 6. If there are parents who can't afford to pay the fee at this time, I can charge at the time of each trip.

For Wednesday:

-Math: Study Links 1-2 (p. 5), and deliver the Everyday Math Unit 1 parent letter if you haven't done so already. -NMSBA Parent Reports: Parents, today I sent home a copy of your child's New Mexico Standards-Based Assessment results in reading, math, and writing that they took last April. Please take time to read the report and discuss the results with your son or daughter.

First day! (and first assignment)

-The first day of school flew right by today. What a great group of students! The first homework assignment is for students to deliver the paperwork packet to their parents to read and fill out. Parents, please fill out the school lunch application even if you don't plan to receive free or reduced lunch. The deadline for returning all the forms is Friday, August 23rd, and I'll be collecting them in class until then.

Welcome to the TCS 4th Grade Blog

-Hello to all the incoming 4th grade students and parents at Taos Charter! I hope you've all have had a fantastic summer break. I really enjoyed mine too, but I'm glad to be back working in the classroom and excited to kick off another school year with this new group of kids. School starts Monday, August 19th at 8:15 AM. Fourth grade supply lists are available in the office or at the TCS website in the "For Parents" section. It's not necessary for everyone to have all the supplies on the first day. Pencils, folders, and composition books are the most important items. Until then, get outside, have some fun, and make the most of your last days of break. I'll see you bright and early next Monday! -Our TCS Pot-Luck and Orientation is Friday, August 16th from 5:30 to 7:30pm if you can make it. What to bring?
